At the Park

Isaac at the Park (2008)

Feeding the Ducks

We took Isaac to the park this morning to feed the ducks. He danced after almost every throw.

Mitochondrial Eve

From Fox News:

Previous studies using mitochondrial DNA — which is passed down through mothers — have shown that all modern humans share one female ancestor (out of thousands), the "mitochondrial Eve," who lived in Africa about 200,000 years ago.

Really?! You don't say?

Hmmmm........I wonder who that one woman might have been? And I personally think it was probably closer to 6,000 years ago, but that's another matter....

Change

It is a season of change in the Allen's home.

Early this month, Charisse Rose came into our lives. That was a bit of a change. Betsie and I are learning to play "man-to-man" defense now. Isaac is learning to be a big brother. And Charisse is trying to learn the difference between day and night.

After the 25th of this month, after 9 years (or so) I will no longer be employed at Scott and White Hospital. I've accepted a position at Proactive Communications Inc. as a Security Engineer. There is a lot to learn there and I look forward to the challenge.

Both these changes are positive, and both are pretty big for us. They say a new baby and a new job are two of the most stressful life events (or so I'm told). We've decided take them both on at the same time.....

Change is inevitable (except from a vending machine).

Charisse Rose Allen

Charisse Rose Allen was born Friday April 4th, 2008 at 11:25am. She came in weighing 7lbs 6oz and 18 3/4 inches long. We only spent one evening at the hospital (which was a blessing) and now we're all home and trying to figure what sleep is again.

You can read a better summary over at Photodoto. But really, you should just go check out the pictures...

CCNA

I was never really in to certifications until recently. And now I have two within a year. :o)

Yesterday I passed the CCNA Exam! My goal was to pass the test before Christmas, so I just did make it.

And now that that's done, I can move on to studying for my GCIH, which is the next class for my masters I want to pursue.
